Andorra La Vella, the capital of Andorra, is a city of roughly 23,000, nestled between Spain and France in the eastern Pyrenees Mountains. Historic homes and buildings, some such as the church of Santa Coloma that date to the 9th century, line the stone streets of the city. For many travelers, Andorra La Vella is the perfect base camp for exploring the many exciting promises of the Pyrenees.
Andorra La Vella is comprised of two separate sections, one new and the other old. Visitors cannot afford to miss the heritage of the “Barri Antic” or old Quarter. The old Quarter is filled with quaint shops, restaurants and historic monuments. The church of Sant Esteve and the church of Sant Andrew (both constructed in the 12th century), the Cassa de la Vall (the seat of the Andorran Parliament, built in the 16th century), the town square, and the Bridge of la Margineda (a still functioning medieval bridge) are all popular attractions. You may also be able to find great accommodation in Andorra la Vella, such as the Tivoli Hotel.
Skiing enthusiasts love Andorra La Vella for its close proximity to the slopes of the Pyrenees, and the convenience of local transportation to area ski resorts. For inexpensive accommodation in Andorra La Vella look to the Sant Jordi Hotel, Andorra Palace, or Artic Hotel.
